Lucky

The cold, winter weather lately has got me thinking about spring and how I can't wait to get back outside doing photo shoots.  For that reason I wanted to post pictures from this past fall.  From one of those last autumn days where you can't hardly soak up enough of the mild temperatures because you just know that it won't be long before you'll be buried in snow and wishing it was warm again.  And here I am, just like I knew I would be... excited by the thought that tomorrow could be a day above freezing and we'll be that much closer to seeing the grass again.

These photos are of the Williams family, and this was one of my favorite family photo shoots from last year.  Not only were these kids so sweet and polite, but they LOVED having their pictures taken - and this made my job so much fun.  I think that each of their individual personalities are brought out in these photos and the pictures also show how much love this family has for each other.  It was so obvious that they have fun being together, and I had a great time hanging out with them for an afternoon.

The opportunity to meet such neat people... just one of the many things that I absolutely love about my job as a photographer.  In lieu of the recent earthquake in Haiti, I feel like I need to remind myself of just how lucky I am.  After days of watching footage on TV, I can't even imagine the life that the people there are living with every day.  Not to mention the heartbreaking stories of helpless little ones who can't get the medical attention that they need so badly.  It's so tough to be here, knowing that it's impossible to get on a plane and go to Haiti to help out - something that I'd do in a heartbeat if I were given the chance.  I believe that aside from donations, thoughts, and prayers, the best thing to do is take a step back and look at our own lives.  All of the little things that we take for granted every day - drinking clean water from the faucet, going to the doctor when we need to, having a bed to crawl into at night.  I know that I will go into the future reminding myself of just how fortunate I am.  Remembering that my everyday problems are truly nothing when I think about what a wonderful life I have.  So my word of the night is... LUCKY.  Thank you to everyone who's helped to make my life what it is.

Don't Blink

As I'm blogging now it feels like forever since I've posted new photos... it has been! More than a month. A month of getting caught up on pictures, snow storms, holiday parties with friends, and spending time with family. A month with no blogging and I really missed it! Now I'm happy to be back on track, ready to start 2010 better than ever! Even though I took a little break from writing, that certainly doesn't mean that I haven't been busy. Between work, Christmas happenings, and taking pictures - yes, taking pictures, even in the cold! (see above and below) - I've also been working on my photography business. I'm glad that you're here reading my blog because that means that you're probably wondering about the heading on this page. I'm so excited to present to you the new blog site of Don't Blink Photography!

After much thought, and with the help of friends and family, I've finally put together a business identity that I am proud to share with you. Now choosing a business name, or logo for that matter, definitely wasn't an easy task. Where many of you may be familiar with my style of photography, I wanted to choose a name and logo that lets people know exactly what it is that I love to do. I believe that the words "don't blink" say this perfectly. I love to take pictures that show you a feeling and can communicate this feeling in a photo - a frozen instant in time. I like to use photos to describe the indescribable moments that we would like to hold onto forever. The kind of moments that no matter how long they last, it's just not long enough. The kind that are often gone in the blink of an eye. Whether its the parents who never want to forget the smile on their little boy's face when he was two, or even the newly engaged couple who just can't imagine being any more in love... it's these moments that I am honored to be able to photograph, and therefore the reason why I can't wait to build a business on the words "don't blink."

Okay, okay enough already and let's talk about the pictures! This latest post is an engagement session that I had the opportunity to do for Adam and Kassi, planning a Fall 2010 wedding. When I said above that I've been taking pictures in the cold, I really mean it! We did this photo shoot last Saturday and the temperature couldn't have been more than five degrees! Even still, these two were awesome and didn't let the cold keep them from having a fun time. Thank you to Adam and Kassi for a chilly, but wonderful photo shoot! Enjoy the sneak peak at your photos!

Thank you to Ric at Relative Image Creative Design for the wonderful job on the logo creation for Don't Blink Photography! For more information about RICD, go to http://webpages.charter.net/ricdesign/.
